Eco Lips is the original organic lip balm! It all started in the early 90’s when the creator, Andrea, started making small batches of lip balms out of her kitchen for family and friends. Steve, her partner and a lifetime entrepreneur took the lip balms to another level. With the help from their top sales rep Jim, Eco Lips arrived. In 2003 they were the first USDA certified organic lip balm on the market.

Eco Lips makes sure that all of their products are made with sustainable business practices, fair trade, gluten-free ingredients, and cruelty-free ingredients. They also use recyclable lip balm containers made with 40% recycled content and recycled aluminum carabiner clips for their Eco Clips accessories. All of Eco Lip’s ingredients are sourced from all over the world. They use Fair Trade certified cocoa butter and coconut oil to help support farmers. The balm is made in the historic Cherry Building located in the New Bohemia district of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. In 2004, they initiated Iowa’s largest solar project that offsets their neighborhood’s energy usage.

eco lips pure and simple

Lip balms are a staple especially when the weather gets colder and your lips are more vulnerable to becoming dry. They are essential in healing cracked, rough, and peeling lips. If you’re like me, you keep one in your purse, desk, car, pocket, and various other places.

Other lip balms can contain harsh chemicals such as petrolatum, BHA, BHT, parabens and “fragrance.” Read more about commonly found toxins in beauty products here.

Aside from being eco-friendly and non-toxic, I love these over other lip balms because they do not taste like wax, they are not overly greasy, they do not smell artificial and I have found these to last a bit longer than your average balm.

Mongo Kiss

eco lips mongo kiss

Mongo Kiss lip balms are made with certified organic and fair trade cocoa butter infused with Mongongo Oil, a nutrient rich oil sourced from a rural village in Zambia, Africa. This oil is high in Vitamin E and other nutrients perfect for nourishing the skin. It has been used for centuries by the !Kung bushmen of the Kalahari to protect their skin from the harsh desert environment.

There are so many options to choose from: Acai Berry, Banana, Blood Orange, Peppermint, Pomegranate, Vanilla Honey, Yumberry, and the Unflavored.

I found this collection to be the creamiest, leaving my lips the softest overall. The scents are strong and vibrant but not overpowering. My lips feel hydrated and look supple long after applying. I have been enjoying the Acai Berry, Pomegranate, and even the unflavored lip balm the most!

Eco Tints

Eco Tints not only moisturizes the lips, but they also provide a sheer tint. They come in six shades of reds, pinks and browns; sugar plum, plush red, coralyte, mocha velvet, rose quartz, and moonstone. These tints are made with Fair Trade Certified Organic cocoa butter and coconut oil. They are also made with organic argan oil and aloe vera.

I prefer lip tints over lipsticks or glosses any day. I find these in particular to be more natural looking  while still giving a subtle tint of color and shimmer. This will give you a bit of added pigment on days when full face makeup is not on the agenda, and at the same keep your lips hydrated.
