This beautiful stone is a rare white Himalayan salt lamp from So Well. Justin and I are currently in the process of converting one of our rooms from a guest bedroom to a meditation/yoga space, and this gem fits in perfectly.

About Himilayan Salt

Himalayan sea salt is believed to be composed of dried remnants of the original, primal sea dating back to Earth’s creation. Real Himalayan salt lamps are actually solid blocks of Himalayan salt that have been hand-carved. The salt comes from deep underground mines in Khewra, Pakistan, located on the western edge of the Himalayan Mountains.

Aside from being a beautiful light source, salt lamps potentially have the ability to decrease air pollution, negative ions and electrosmog caused by electronic devices. It could also help those suffering from asthma, allergies, and other illnesses. Himalayan salt is even said to be strong enough to reduce mold, fungus, and other bacteria from your air so you can breathe better.

So Well Made White Himalayan Salt Lamp

White Himalayan Salt Lamp by So Well Made

Himalayan salt is usually pink in color but my particular salt lamp is white! It was gifted to me from SO WELL MADE, a reputable Himalayan sea salt retailer. It is made from genuine white salt crystals that were formed deep inside the Himalayan Mountains over 200 million years ago. It was hand-excavated from sea beds at the foothills of the Himalayan Mountains.

SO WELL MADE imports all of their salt products through long-term direct relationships that create mutual accountability. Their partners observe fair trade principles that include 25% greater than average wages and human rights such as rest breaks, chilled water, protective clothing, safe working environments and medical care. You can be assured that their talented craftsmen are respected and cared for as valuable members of the So Well team. Additionally, all of their ingredients are harvested sustainably and they use 100% reusable, recyclable and eco-friendly packaging.

Another point I want to touch on. With the high demand of salt lamps there are many “fakes” out there unfortunately. To make sure yours is authentic, here are a few checks:

1. White and grey salt is equal in price to pink/amber. (White and grey should be more expensive as they are more rare.)
2. The manufacturer or supplier has a poor return policy.
3. The salt’s country of origin isn’t Pakistan.
4. Your lamp is very bright, with enough power to illuminate a room. (Real salt lamps should only provide an uneven soft, warm glow.)

They say to keep your salt lamp either in your work space/office, living room near the television, or in the bedroom. Wherever you might have the most electronic smog is always a good place. We keep ours in our meditation space for the ambience!

Our white crystal himalayan salt lamp is gorgeous and provides a calming aura to any room. We have size medium (about 10lbs) and it comes mounted on a wooden base with a 15-watt light bulb and UL tested dimmer cord – you can have a soft glow, or pump up the light and make it brighter. You can tell it’s crafted with great quality just by holding it. Here are a couple photos of it on in the dark!
